Monte Vesta, Cascina Fassane, Lago Valvestino
This exciting mountaineering cycle route is the most MTB-friendly route in the Winderless Val di Vesta that I know of. We start from Molino di Bollone (Valvestino) and climb Sp 58 for 7 km and 440 meters of elevation gain with fluid rapidity to Passo San Rocco in Capovalle. Now, keeping to the right we take the long (6 km 400 meters of elevation gain) forest road that leads to the Los barn. We pass a bar and follow a forestry road to the left for 300 linear meters then instead of climbing Mount Carzen we continue on a flat path to the right to Vesta Pass (the pass can also be reached by climbing and descending the Carzen with 200 meters of elevation gain). Now a short but sturdy shoulder, less than 100 meters of elevation gain and we are on Mt. Vesta.
The fun descent begins. First we descend the meadowy summit of Vesta, pass the Vesta Tollhouse (former customs house) and continue to Mt. Pallotto. We ignore the fork for Pallotto and continue down the Fassane valley on trail 272 to the Cascina Fassane now managed by the CAI of Salò and down again on 273 fording the stream three times (the only ones you get off your bike) to the lake to cross trail 471. The crossing of the trails occurs right at the old Austro-Hungarian customs house, which, if the lake waters are moderately shallow, can resurface completely as on this occasion. Historic building, ghostly and atmospheric.
It's not over, now to the left from the direction of origin we travel 471 for 4 km and 150 meters of elevation gain that runs on exposed ledges, very scenic and devoid of technical difficulties, but because of the exposure to be interpreted always with maximum concentration until the wall that closes it. The undulating course of the route contemplates some short climbs that are not always rideable with the bike. We throw the bike over the closing wall and after 300 linear meters we are at the parking lot. Not a very long ride that certainly does not skimp on providing excitement and fulfillment.
