Tra i due rami del lago di Como
A beautiful, long route between the two branches of Lake Como, including the ascent of Mount Palanzone. A challenging ride due to the elevation gain, with very steep climbs that are fully rideable in the first section. On the second long climb from Nesso to Piani del Tivano—from 600 meters to about 900 meters—you’ll have to push your bike up concrete paths with impossible gradients (great for e-bikes). For regular bikes, I recommend the comfortable paved road from Nesso to Piani del Timavo, then rejoining the trail.
From Piani del Timavo, a demanding climb up killer ramps that are barely rideable leads to the base of Monte Bui Palanzone, where you’ll have to push or carry your bike for about 200 meters of elevation gain. Alternatively, stay below on the dirt road and go around the mountain (you’ll push, but you won’t have to carry your bike). A few short sections alternate with some brief pushes toward Mount Puscio (nothing too strenuous). A highly rideable route with two challenging descents.
The first is below Mount San Primo; then, from the lift station, a paved road leads to the start of a fantastic trail that takes us all the way down to the lake. It’s very long with challenging and difficult sections, and while the leaves on the ground didn’t detract from the beauty of the descent. The second descent starts from the summit of Palanzone with a nice, steep initial section, then connects to Puscio where a very demanding vertical drop begins! At the end of the day, be careful on this challenging descent back to the car.
