Jafferau da Gleise
From Bardonecchia, follow the signs for Gleises, where you can park. The route begins on paved road; at Grange Rochas and Broure, continue toward Gr. Suppas/Forte Foens. Before the fork for Bacini/Decauville/Alberghi Belvedere and Jafferau, keep to the right where the dirt road begins. After a few hundred meters, on the left, you’ll encounter some very challenging hairpin turns. Then, on nearly level ground, you’ll reach Forte Foens. At the junction for Pramand, keep left where the trail becomes rocky all the way to Colle Basset. With gentler slopes and a slight descent, you’ll reach the Jafferau pass, marked by a ruined structure on the right.
From here, the climb is challenging due to the uneven terrain; try to stay on the inner edge where the rocks are more continuous, and you’ll reach the 2,814-meter summit of Jafferau. Head back to take the rough and very dusty dirt road on the opposite slope. Upon reaching the terminus of the Testa del Ban chairlift, follow the route back to the departure station and then cross the area of the Belvedere and Jafferau hotels. From here, leaving the parking lot at Bacini on your right, the route along the former Decauville track begins, eventually rejoining the outbound path that leads back to Gleises.
