Marina Di Campo Loop 2
The route starts in Marina di Campo and climbs toward Monte Tambone along a steep, bumpy dirt road; however, there’s always a clear trail along the edges that’s easy to ride. Once you reach the ridge, turn left and after a short climb, you’ll crest the hill at Monte Tambone. A short but fun technical descent over rocks (watch out for two detours—one to the right and one to the left—that bypass two sections impassable by bike). You arrive at the Passo del Monumento and follow the dirt road, which, after a short climb over the pass, descends and then climbs again to the San Martino intersection. Here, continue straight on the CAI 45 trail.
Just before Monte Pericoli, keep to the right and a nice single track begins that descends toward Villa S. Martino (S3); after a rocky section, keep to the right (Suore Trail) and you’ll encounter switchbacks, more technical sections over stones and rocks, and steps... but always very smooth. At the Villa, follow the forest road (Cai 121) which climbs with a few short steep sections through the woods (on loose rock) up to a crossroads; continue straight on a gradual single track that climbs up to the GTE (a few more technical uphill sections in the final part). Here, turn right and shortly after left to take the Molino a Vento trail, which descends to Lacona. The route starts off flowing but then gets more challenging with technical sections over loose stones and boulders, steep sections, and steps (S3/4)
Once you reach the first houses, turn left to take a nice single-track climb (Colle delle Vacche) that brings you back to the GTE. Follow the GTE back to the S. Martino intersection, and this time take CAI Trail 45, which passes to the left of Monte Pericoli and descends toward Colle Pecorino. A nice, flowing descent with some more technical sections in the final stretch. Cross the provincial road and take the dirt road in front that climbs and then descends until you reach the trail (on the right) for Procchio/Biodola. A short, somewhat rutted trail with a few technical sections, but easily rideable; at the junction with the Procchio/Biodola trail, keep left toward Procchio: a nice traverse through the woods with some ups and downs leading to Procchio Beach.
Here, head back up onto the provincial road and continue toward Marciana Marina. Just past the village of Redinoce, take CAI 16 to the left, which climbs gradually toward S. Rita and then turns left toward Colle Reciso (a beautiful technical climb over rocky terrain). At Colle Reciso, follow the recently improved forest road to the left all the way to S. Ilario. A short stretch of asphalt leads to the junction for Monte Perone. Here, at the hairpin turn, take the small road on the left that descends and soon becomes a nice single track: a flowing route, but with some steep sections, rocky passages, and guided sections through the rocks and woods—a fun conclusion to the ride. Once you reach Marina di Campo, follow the bike paths and small roads back to the parking lot.
