Monte Colombina + S. Defendente
Itinerary with extraordinary views of Lake Iseo, the Camune mountains, the mountains of Val Seriana and the Brescian and Bergamo Pre-Alps.
Departure from the Gre quarries on the Bergamo side of upper Lake Iseo.
Passing through Castro, we travel along a section of the Val Borlezza, between the villages of Pianico and Sovere. Climbing to the pretty village of Bossico, we continue through the hanging meadows of Onito, until we reach the small church of S. Fermo, also nestled in the meadows in the presence of the summit of Mount Colombina, elevation 1458.
The last 200 meters of elevation gain must be tackled with the bike on the shoulders, up to the beautiful summit ridge.
The descent begins from the scenic southern ridge and then enters the woods until just before the village of Bossico, where it is necessary to ride backwards up a section of ascent, until just below the village, where the path begins, passing by the Passo delle Croci, down to the locality of Poltragno. At the traffic circle, a few meters beyond, the second part of the itinerary begins with the ascent to the Castro pass. It climbs further to a junction, where unlike in the morning we turn left, climbed up to the locality Cerrete (Solto Collina) we continue further, until we turn left, at the B&B In Collina. A dirt road leads to the Hermitage of S. Defendente, at an altitude of 670 meters.
Admiring the sublime view, we plunge into the last and most stunning descent to the shore of the lake, near the Gre quarries.
