Monte Creò
Lake Iseo is the fulcrum around which this MTB itinerary on Mount Creò revolves. It is a moderately challenging route both in terms of elevation gain and gradients, but it offers striking views in the woods above Fonteno toward the San Fermo hills and a fun and technical descent.
The route starts from Zorzino, initially the road is flat, but some uphill dirt road awaits you shortly; the surface is very uneven and the challenging gradient may force you to push a few short stretches. The slopes meanwhile are fairly gentle but let's not fool ourselves, the good stuff is yet to come!We reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Santello where we have a short breather on dirt road before resuming the hard climb, initially on concrete and then on cobblestones. After about nine kilometers with high gradients we reach the Camonghe locality. However, there are still a few more hairpin bends in the woods before we can pull our breath! In the meantime we admire the landscape that ranges from the high peaks of the Adamello to the east to the nearest San Fermo hills to the west. We stay at high altitude alternating fast single track with dirt roads to reach the summit of Mount Creò at 1106 m. The exertions are almost over and now we can start having fun on the descent. The single track alternates between fairly challenging and faster sections, but, unfortunately, unlike the ascent, it is very short. You leave the trail to turn onto a dirt road; continue flat and then downhill through chestnut trees to soon reach asphalt. The nosedive is steep and fast and leads in no time to Fonteno and from there to our starting point.
