Malgalunga - Grione
We are in Val Cavallina, more precisely on Lake Endine, and we will climb up to Malgalunga?and then descend via a trail back to the lake. A small clarification before we start with the tour description: if you are a fan of fast, flowing trails on packed dirt, this is not for you; move on to the next one.
Starting from the lakefront parking lot in Endine, we climb on secondary, fully paved roads until we reach the Ranzanico Fork. Upon reaching the fork we take a path, initially not rideable, due to steps, that rejoins the road going to Malgalunga. Proceed with a slight up and down on a cemented/steered road until you reach the Malgalunga refuge; alternatively you can stop about 1km before the refuge and immediately take the path that we will take to descend.
The first part of the trail (Tempesta trail) is quite dirty and not very walkable, until you reach trail 618, a path that leads you down along the ridge with tight switchbacks and short exposed sections. Upon reaching the hut, the trail enters underbrush and becomes more passable; but as we lose elevation the trail becomes more stony, split and unstable with several loose stones; a good workout for the arms! The stones will accompany you back to your starting point.
