Campaegli - Campo dell'Osso - Passo delle Pecore

The route starts from Campaegli, where we parked the cars. You can start at Monte Livata, more quickly accessible from Rome, but there was a trail running event going on that day.

An easy dirt path leads, turning left at a fork in the road, immediately to Monte Livata during the race finish, the better to have parked at Campaegli. From Monte Livata we continue on asphalt to the square at Campo dell'Osso. There is a dirt alternative that skirts the road on the right; I will describe it in another itinerary. From Campo dell'Osso we continue on an initially paved and then dirt road to the views of Monte Autore, where the road ends. We take a nice single track on the left, flowing but fun. We come downhill to Camposecco, a clearing where horses are often found grazing. We descend a bit down the plain to the left along a dirt track and turn left again toward Three Boundaries to re-enter the woods.

We ascend first through the woods on a brisk climb on single track, then into a wide clearing, turning left at a fork, where turning right would shorten the route considerably, to re-enter the woods and finally arrive almost at Campo dell'Osso. From here, turning right we head for Passo delle Pecore. We then descend rapidly first on trail through the woods and then on a dirt road to a junction at which we turn left again on a dirt road to join the initial dirt road at the first junction on the way out. There are no water sources along the way, but you can buy water at Monte Livata or Campo dell'Osso.

The route has no particular difficulty, but still requires the ability to lead on mountain trails. The estimated elevation gain is around 1,000 meters, perhaps a little less.

If this is your first time in the area I recommend stretching briefly to the Views of Mount Autore, where there is a nice view of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
