Prato Capito - Campo Felice - Passo Morretano - Prato Capito

A simple route with only a few more complex passages, both uphill and downhill.

The itinerary was done by me in June 2023 and the snow was already gone, except for a few snowfields at high altitude far from the itinerary, with electric bike.

Leaving the car in a parking lot in Prato Capito, on state road 696 that leads from the A24 exit of Tornimparte to Campo Felice, we set off immediately in the direction of Campo Felice to leave the asphalt road after a few hundred meters, for simple dirt tracks at the bottom of the valley (Piani di Campo Felice) by which we reach the Campo Felice lifts.

You then climb fairly steeply through the ski area and then descend back to the valley, where a new climb begins, this time to the Morretano Pass.

After a short diversion on foot to an abandoned bauxite quarry, you come across a small hut, locked, but with tables with benches outside, where you can stop to eat comfortably.

From there you start again toward the pass.

The climb to the pass is steep and the surface uneven, between rocks and clumps of grass, but 100% rideable. In the trail, recorded by me, there is a section that I walked with walk assistance, but if you wanted, you could climb by pedaling in zigzags. The ascent to the pass we did via meadows, but there is the alternative of going up along the mule track to Sebastiani to be abandoned later for a newly marked trail.

Once at the pass, only the descent remains, not difficult, but a bit laborious in places due to the presence of numerous rocks. The descent then enters the woods and soon becomes pleasant and easy. You arrive a few meters below the parking lot, to which you ascend by an easy dirt road.

The views are superlative at the top, but the Campo Felice plain and forest also have their charm.

The trail is 100 percent doable in the saddle, with the notes above.

Water, apart from the bar at Campo Felice, we found it only at the end, at a drinking fountain just below the parking lot.

The trail is recorded with a non-barometric GPS, I estimate the elevation gain to be around 900 meters.
