Prati di Losanna
In the Lunigiana wilderness we go to explore a hypothetical descent from the Compione pass. From Bagnone we follow theLunigiana trail to the cemetery of Treschietto where we continue uphill on the provincial road towards Iera Compione. From the latter we continue uphill on the road to Tornini huts. The ascent is long but the slopes are never excessive except for a last stretch before the top of the hill. At times there are beautiful views of the Ligurian coast and the Apuan Alps. Before arriving at Capanne Tornini the road starts to climb again but by now we have arrived. At the bivouac we stop to refresh ourselves and make coffee inside where pots and dishes and a kitchenette are available for wayfarers. For those who wish, one can also stay overnight in cots and two bunk beds. We resume the walk, with the inevitable section with bikes on our backs, on Cai 116 leading to the Lausanne meadows. When we arrive at the meadows we decide to leave the bikes and continue on foot to Compione Pass to assess whether the trail is bikeable downhill for a hypothetical future tour. In about 30 minutes we reach the pass, but while we are at it we reach the top of Iera in a few minutes.
The view is superlative: from the summit we can glimpse the Sillara lakes with the mountain of the same name, but everywhere you turn the view fulfills every effort made. Descending again to the Lausanne meadows, we prepare to descend toward Appella on Cai 114, a truly wild and challenging trail that is cyclable almost in its entirety.
From Appella we head toward Bagnone on an asphalt road that we leave for a last stretch of dirt road at Collesino until we finish the tour right at Bagnone Castle.
