Val di Magra Alta Via

The trail starts in Sarzana but for the actual loop you can go to Santo Stefano di Magra. The first part is mostly on asphalt and goes up the Magra valley on secondary trails, before Pontremoli you start climbing first on dirt and then on asphalt until Arzellato and then reach the Rossano valleys. Here the trail continues to the Rastello pass but it is also possible to reach the Alta Via via more direct trails.

At Rastello you continue on the dirt road to the Casoni, you are already around 1000 meters and remain at altitude with short ups and downs. After the Casoni climb a little more and then descend sharply to pass sopre to Calice al Cornoviglio and then finish the Alta Via above Bolano. From here you return on asphalt to the start.

I did the route with 35 mm wheels and 42x52 maximum ratios but it can be done with longer ratios as well. The route is quite long and considering the elevation you need to pay attention to weather conditions, the dirt roads are in good condition and always quite wide.
