Passo del Sole MTB

Beautiful alpine route at the bottom of the Blenio Valley. Start in Olivone, where there are free parking spaces at Denner. You take the post bus from the post office to the Lukmanier Pass. Bike transportation is free.

From Lukmanier you pedal alongside the lake on a dirt road before climbing to the Man Pass. The road that was a rocky mess was put in place in summer 2023! Now it is done all in the saddle, with some nice curves to avoid the steepest sections.

From the pass you descend briefly to Ritom, then turn left towards the Sun Pass. If you have a good leg, pedal all the way to the pass, otherwise you will have to push occasionally.

The descent from the Sun Pass has been repaved and is now doable all the way down in the saddle. It is very long and varied, as it will take you back to Olivone.

First it is alpine, then it enters coniferous forests on the old Lukmanier trail, and the rocks increase as the elevation decreases, and with them the difficulty increases.

If they are wet, they are even more difficult.

In any case, the most technical section is the final one, but again, with good/very good technique it can all be done in the saddle.

Watch out for snow in the early season, that is, from the second half of June onward, depending on how much snow has fallen in winter. The best time remains July-August-mid-September.
