Cadria

This daring CicloAlp is much more than a bike ride it is a leap into our past, into the Great War.

Cadria Massif, Alpi Ledrensi ,Cima Cadria or Cima Geometra.

We start from the bicigril of Condino, and riding for 8.5 km along the beautiful bicycle path towards Tione we reach Cologna.

We now climb hard toward the village of Por, forte Cariola and Malga Ringia with short but challenging climbs, so we have covered 18 km and 1000M D+.

At Malga Ringia the bitumen ends and the fun begins.

We now pedal on beautiful forest/sentiero for another 300m D+ until we reach a sign indicating "detour due to landslide" too bad, it was so beautiful.

The detour is hard and we ride bike for about 150m to the Cadria waterhole at 1870m.

Now, without descending to the Malga Cadria we keep to the left and follow the comfortable path that gently climbs the grassy glacial basin to the left of the Massif, which, however, towards the barrage presents us with the bill by mercilessly climbing the steep grassy slope.

At 2100m altitude the cartography indicates to continue left then right for the final ramp but what is described does not correspond to what is on the ground, the trail is barely perceptible. A faint trail on the slippery fescue makes everything more complicated and the final schuss too steep for my skills, so not without risk I retrace my steps to the trailhead.

I proceed on an unmarked but well-marked trail on the ground until I cross the path up from the Massif that will later be our descent.

The path is now challenging but well defined, a metal cable accompanies us and reassures.

We proceed thus to the bottom of the traverse and rounding the ridge a strong emotion awaits us, a narrow path overhanging the abyss (with cable) makes us gasp even if falsely level for 200m linear then a short rocky ramp and we are at the summit.

Grandiose! Superlative 360° panorama and the Massif now shows itself in all its majesty and ruggedness.

After so much fatigue it's time for pleasure, it's time to descend with much, much attention the mythical trail of the trenches with breathtaking passages, (some with bikes on the side) in a succession of caves, large rooms, machine gun emplacements and long segments of trenches dug in zigzags in the limestone in order to avoid the deadly shots of infiltration raiding now on one side now on the other, moving!

We now reach the Malga Cadria former stronghold of the Austrian command and immediately after the puddle the trail goes up again to remind us that the labors are not over, a long undulating summit trail awaits us up to the Prati di Rango, then down with much fun to the magical little church of San Lorenzo and the last segment to the bicigril of Condino where our fantastic loop tour ends.

Strenuous but to be ridden with the right spirit and lots and lots of attention as exposure takes over for long stretches.
