Valle Maira Monti Birrone e Cornet

The route starts from San Damiano Macra (Valle Maira) on asphalt towards Colle Birrone. After 8.5 km of moderate climb, near the village of Chesta, the dirt road begins. Continue to Colle Birrone (km 12.3), where you turn right onto flat ground. At km 13.8, leave the dirt road and take an unmarked, grassy uphill track on the left, which is difficult to cycle on. After 200 linear meters, the path becomes flat and cycleable (S1). At km 15.7, the path becomes steep and you will need to push for about 10 minutes to reach Colle di Melle (km 16). From the hill, turn left towards Monte Birrone, which you will reach by pushing and pedaling.

From the summit, return to Colle di Melle, descend a few meters (S5), then a short stretch (S3), and the rest is all S1 or S2 at most. Back at Colle di Melle, continue along the wide ridge towards Monte Cornet, going up and down (push for 5 minutes on a path that is too steep) without difficulty. From Monte Cornet, continue downhill towards Colle della Ciabra, still on the wide ridge. Once you reach the hill, turn right onto a dirt road for a short stretch. after a few meters, turn left downhill, still on the dirt road, which you leave at the first hairpin bend and take a path towards the church of San Chiaffredo. The path is varied, with some smooth sections and others more stony, almost always S1/S2 with a few short S3 sections. Halfway along the route, follow a stretch of dirt road to km 27.2, where you rejoin the trail that leads back to the starting point, passing through the villages of Mostiola, Molineri, and Podio.
