Valle delle 100 Fonti - Fonte Pane e Cacio
Once again we immerse ourselves in the magic of the Laga Mountains, this time we start from Cesacastina to arrive on a comfortable cartroad in the Valley of the 100 Sources that in the late spring period gives its maximum beauty thanks to the great flow of water that feeds its countless waterfalls. After crossing Stazzo Mercurio, the road becomes a mountain path that is almost entirely rideable, except for a few small passages between the rocks, and on our left we are always accompanied by the majesty of Gran Sasso and the western peaks of Pizzo Intermesoli and Monte Corvo.
After a long fast traverse we reach the pass of Fonte Pane e Cacio through a small steep valley where further down we notice another of the many waterfalls that embellish the tour. Arriving at the pass, a unique view opens up before us, tongues of snow still abundant with Lake Campotosto in the background, and from here begins a long trail that leads us to the lake of which you will be fascinated given its length and the variety of bottom you will encounter.
Once on the provincial road, nimble scramble on asphalt to the lake bar for a quick refreshment and we begin the ascent to the Valley of the 100 Sources on a cart track immersed in a beech forest that is nothing short of magical. Once we leave the cart track, the toughest part of the ride begins with a few portions to push up rock steps to continue on a not always clean and visible trail that takes us back to the starting point for a noteworthy third time at the 100 Sources Shelter.
