Savognin - Mutten - Crocs - Thusis

Departure from the top station of the cable car from Savognin. From Somtgant we turn right towards Mot Lartig. Here, at just under 2200 meters above sea level, the trail fun begins. Roots, forest floor, all the way to Bargung. A local in Savognin pointed out two excellent shortcuts that save us from losing 300 meters to Lungatigia Soura on a boring dirt road. Good job! The trails are not easy to find, but you should be able to find them using the GPS track.

From Lungatigia, the trail climbs and descends steadily to Salaschigns, where the trail enters rather challenging Val da Morts, in Romansh Death Valley. At an elevation of 1338 the fun is over for the time being, the trail continues in a steady up and down to Del, and from there via Mon to Stierva. The trail continues in the shade of the forest to Mutten, 1394 meters above sea level. The subsequent ascent to Obermutten (450 m a.s.l.) is challenging, the little road winds uphill very steeply. Once you reach the top, Gasthaus Post is a wonderful place to stop and enjoy the view.

An even more beautiful panorama can be enjoyed from the Muttner Höhi, located exactly 2,000 meters above sea level, from which one can now see all the way to the day's destination, Thusis, which lies 1,300 meters below. Already from here one can guess that the final bouquet of trails that will follow will be very challenging. The trail down to Crocs is brilliant, rather steep and with tight switchbacks, but generally rideable with good riding technique and dry conditions. Below Maiensäss Crocs it becomes very exposed for a few 100 meters, the trail would be safe to ride, but a fall would probably be fatal. That is why we push here and recommend it to everyone! Further down, it becomes less dangerous again and we reach Thusis via the Carschenna and Höhenrätien trails, exhausted but happy.
