Alpe Giumello da Vendrogno
Easy loop tour, always facing south, on the slopes of Mount Muggio in Valsassina. Suitable for everyone, even beginners as long as they have a good leg. I rode it with my wife who has been riding mtb for a couple of years and managed to tackle the whole ride in the saddle. Starting from the parking lot in the square in front of the church in the Vendrogno village, you follow the asphalt road uphill to the east following the signs to Narro and then to Alpe Giumello. The climb is entirely on asphalt and the gradients of the various kilometers are marked (the Bellano-Giumello climb is well known in the area). When you reach Narro, with a sharp turn you turn left and take the road that ends at the Alpe Giumello parking lot. Pedal west, heading for the small church and then Alpe Chiaro where there is a water source.
Before taking the path down to Tedoldo that starts right below the Tagliaferri farm, we continue flat on the trail to the giant bench, from where there is a splendid view of Lake Como.
We turn back to the farm and take the wide path (dug during summer 2024) where you can let your bike run and come to a small lake/water reserve. You keep to the left and descend to the small village of Tedoldo.
From the drinking fountain in the village meadow, follow the signs toward Lornico, following the Bellano Enduro Cup route.
Arriving on a dirt road leading to Lornico we turn left and, after a few meters, immediately right towards Mornico. We descend on singletrack and mule track to Mornico.
In the village, having arrived in the middle of the houses, we spot the church tower and pedal westward. Under the churchyard wall starts the beautiful, almost flat trail to Sanico. A short but steep climb takes us between the houses of Sanico and we come out into the village parking lot.
We take the asphalt road downhill and, at the first hairpin bend we cross, go right on a dirt road until we reach the San Grato refuge (again, beautiful view from the cross in front of the little church). We take the steep cemented staircase back to the paved road at the hairpin bend downstream from the refuge.
After a few meters on the right a somewhat technical path allows us to cut the next hairpin bend and come out near the Bon Prà farm. We descend to the right on asphalt and, just before the road rises again, take the mule track that descends to the left and takes us back to Vendrogno and then to the parking lot.
