Description

We have had this tour in the back of our minds for quite some time and finally decided to tackle it; we are talking about the Sellaronda ski lift tour in Trentino. It is a scenic mountain bike tour around the monumental Sella group in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

You have two choices, either ride it counterclockwise, with more meters of elevation gain pedaled and less trail, or clockwise, as we do, with a length of 63 km, about 4100m of elevation gain of which about 400 are pedaled; the route is entirely rideable even with front mtb, with a moving time of 4.30 hours. The Sellaronda MTB Tour can be started from one of the four valleys around the Sella Massif: from Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba, or Val di Fassa. We left the car in Selva and took the first Dantercepies cable car. We will not go into much detail in describing the route, you will find all the info and route descriptions in detail on the Sellaronda website, but we will give our personal opinion.

The cost of the ticket is 56 euros, daily which includes the entire area. The ticket money is worth the view, for the trails we expected something more; the first trails faced very easy, bike park-like, but almost boring, the last ones, on the other hand, more natural with some more technicalities, but nothing much. The Sellaronda Tour on the whole, then, is quite easy, rideable without having any particular downhill skills.

We are from Bergamo and we decided to ride it in the day, we do not recommend Sunday, not much for the chaos on the trails, although it was a sunny weekend the riders were not many, there was never a wait to take the lifts, but we do not recommend it for the possible, but almost assured, column on the way back. If you have the chance we recommend doing one night, so that you can leave fresh and loaded the next day without making absurd pulls and enjoying the 56 euros spent for the day pass; take it easy and enjoy the views and the beautiful dolomites around you.

In conclusion, once in a lifetime should definitely be done, not so much for the trails, but for the magnificent places you are going to explore.
