Bolano - Pontremoli AltaVia
This is a route of a section of the Alta via dei monti Liguri in the La Spezia part. The section traces part of the Lunigiana Gravel.
For my convenience the departure was from Sarzana with a transfer on asphalt until above Bolano. At the top of the provincial road that joins Bolano with Podenzana the Alta Via dirt road begins. The trail has a pretty good bottom and "driveable" even by off-road vehicles or farm vehicles, the slopes are not exorbitant but for my legs I have often exploited the 42x42, I used 38mm tread-treaded tires and I was fine, I recommend to keep low pressures for more grip on the sections with crushed stone.
From where the dirt road starts you are already around 600 m and then go around 1000 and stay there for almost the entire stretch. There are many possible variants or descents in the two valleys (of the Magra and Vara) and possible return, I did the stretch up to the Rastrello pass and then descended on asphalt until Pontremoli. My trail ends here but it is also feasible to return on asphalt along the Cisa state road for those who want to make a loop. I did the trail in about 4 hours with practically no stops since the weather was not promising and I wanted to get to the valley as soon as possible.
