Alpe del Gigiai e Monti di Vercana
In this tour, two tracks among those proposed by the Alto Lariotourist board were concatenated: Alpe del Gigiai and the Vercana Mountains. The climb is long and challenging but always well pedaled. From Fordeccia to Alpe di Mezzo is probably the most challenging part. During the ascent the views are particularly beautiful and overlook the northernmost part of Lake Lario and the mouths of the Adda and Mera rivers.
The first part of the descent is on a fairly rutted coast path on which you have to float on a broken and loose limestone bottom. At Alpe Piazza the detour and traverse began to connect to the Monti di Vercana trail. Very nice and rideable traverse to the San Vincenzo stream gorge. Near the creek it is necessary to proceed on foot. It is a few meters of elevation gain both downhill and uphill to descend and ascend the creek gorge, but where it is necessary to load the bike on the shoulder for a few minutes. Once past the gorge the traverse proceeds, very nice and rideable to the Vercana Mountains and the village of Tabbiadello, and from a scenic road close to the lake you return to Gera Lario.
Very scenic tour, challenging climb and not particularly technical descent.
