Intorno al Mottarone

From Armeno, climb to Sovazza by paved road and then reach Coiromonte by very good cart track. From Coiromonte climb to the 3 montagnette (Mt. Falò) exit on the Mottarone road to return to Alpe Volpe, Alpe Calandro and again Mottarone Borromea road. Go up to take the B5 trail to Alpe Mottarone and from here continue past the site of the May 23/2021 tragedy under the cable car pylon. A plaque shows the names of the people who died in the accident. After a moment of emotion, we start again following the track where the Stresa Mottarone train (1911-1963) used to pass, later replaced in 1970 by the cable car.

When we arrive at the cable car we go around Mottarone to descend again toward Armeno on the dirt paths that follow the paved road. Beautiful descent with some sections to be careful. From Luciago we descend by Vr1 to Armeno, taking the detour to the left (first and last time) as the bumpy, uneven surface is not made for bicycles.
