RIFUGIO TORSOLETO EASYLINE DALLA VAL DI SCALA
A spectacular valley this Val di Scala where mountain pastures, streams and mountains give rise to a majestic scenery where you can ride your mtb. Tough climb but then a 10+ descent with a stop at Rifugio Torsoleto and if you want also at Bivacco Davide.
We start from Case del Longo ( 1,060 m ), just before Grumello (BS) in the direction of Passo del Vivione and on asphalt uphill we reach Grumello. We turn right and continue to Baite di Mezzo ( 1,360 m ). From here the road becomes gippabile/muletrack and the slopes important and constant. I won't hide from you that in some sections even the E-Bike is faltering but we don't give up and a little pushing a little pedaling we will continue. We are out of this world now and the valley steals your soul. Streams and alpine pastures will lead you to Malga Val Di Scala Inferiore ( 1,742 m ) and with another hard climb to Malga Val di Scala Superiore ( 2,002 m ). Here take a breath and sip the water you find in the fountain. A long traverse will lead you to Val Scala Lake ( 2,080 m ). Beware that there will be a couple of points where you will have to descend because the path is dug and landslide. From the lake we continue on N. 160/B to the junction with N.160 that goes up from Loveno. We turn right and from this point at about 2,000 m we will have the final part towards Rifugio Torsoleto where the ride will be easier apart from two or three hard points. Rifugio Torsoleto placed at 2,390 m dominates the valley: if you want with about 20/25 minutes by push and shoulder or on foot, you can reach Bivacco Davide ( 2,645 m ) to enjoy a fabulous skyline.
From the bivouac you now backtrack, putting on your protective gear and opening the fork, and the very long descent begins. Beware of the first rocky section: don't go too fast even for people who might be climbing. When we reach the fork passed at the start (2,020 m ), we keep to the right and continue downhill with a mix of endless situations: rock n' roll, roots, flow, undergrowth, a few hairpin bends, a few freeride pieces and lots and lots of fun that will make you forget the very hard climb.
Once in Loveno, we take the asphalt again and in a few moments we will be at the cars.
