Rifugio al valico e maso Greiter

Very long but very varied ascent with bike-on-shoulder sections and challenging descent, very varied and fun, these are the highlights of this tour, all topped off with very beautiful views of the Venosta and Adige valleys.

Having arrived by pedaling up to the Leiteralm (refreshments closed in winter), we climb partly by bike on the back and partly by pedaling, for about an hour, to the hut at the Valico. Here we have two options: either descend on the challenging and fun trail 7 or, as we did in this case, continue on the Merano high route with very nice sections to the junction to the Greiter farm.

This trail is quite challenging with steep sections; it takes a lot of technique to stay in the saddle. From the Greiter farm you continue on partly exposed and still challenging trail, then other smoother trails to Merano. Itinerary also to be done in autumn-winter and on windy days, given the barrier created by the Alps and the ever-present sunshine
