Giro dell'Elba tappa 2: Secchetto- Rio nell 'Elba
Day 2 - Seccheto-Rio nell'Elba - 73km and 1500 meters of elevation gain
On the second day you start on asphalt and, after a short climb, at 3.5km you take the little path to the right that descends narrowly and steeply through the vegetation to the outskirts of Marina di Campo, which you reach on pleasant dirt tracks and side roads and halfway up the beach to take the somewhat busy main one that climbs inland to the drop-off from which you already you can see the sea and descend on fast, winding asphalt to the junction on the left at the beginning of the town of Lacona, where you leave the main for a digression into the countryside between campgrounds and kiosks to regain the beach on the right, from which you ascend on secondary asphalt and then dirt road to ride along the point that faces south.
It soon turns into a trail, of medium difficulty for a front, that climbs and descends steeply a few meters to the bays below, with wonderful views throughout the 4km of ups and downs. Finally you rise in elevation to descend on a dirt road to the beach on the other side and continue on the main asphalt for another 2km to Norsi, where you leave the asphalt for secondary, dirt road and secondary steep uphill to Capoliveri, a MTB paradise. You take the high asphalt road that always at high altitude goes around Monte Calamita, with the usual splendid view, until you reach the entrance of the path marked "Miniera" and "Capoliveri Legend" that descends steeply to the right towards the sea. You take the road back up to the left and, after another climb, following the usual signs take the continuation of the path that leads up and down steep slopes to the coast at the old mine, from which you climb back onto a dirt road and continue to the right at the crossroads, to continue up and down between woods and bays, with steep ramps, to Porto Azzurro, a town packed with tourists.
?You follow the waterfront to the end to push up the very steep and narrow stepped path to come out on the Passeggiata Carmignani, a comfortable and scenic little road that descends in steps to Barbarossa beach. From here two alternatives with a difference of a few km but about 1 hour to reach Rio nell'#elba, the main road uphill with constant average gradient until a few km from the village, with medium traffic and about 1 hour of ascent for 10km, or along the coast between dirt and asphalt with certainly better views.
