Casere di Piancavallo
Route on asphalt to Piancavallo, short loop on dirt road between the casere, then continue uphill to Casera Montelonga on dirt road and trails that are only partially cyclable, quick descent on cart track.
Start from Lake Barcis, via the footbridge on the west side cross the tributary, left on asphalt and at the first right go up towards Piancavallo. Simple ascent on asphalt with medium gradient for 12km, then right on dirt road at the reservoir to tackle the short ring of Pian delle More, picturesque and gentle ups and downs in the woods and pastures. Descend past the reservoir on asphalt and at the first right climb sharply on dirt road to the casera above the lake. A long series of ramps on sometimes rough ground with gradients close to 20 percent with the right breaths. A few recent concrete ramps ease the ascent, until the road is reduced to a very stony path deep in the woods, with atmospheres of gnomes and fairies. In wet weather less than half the trail is safely cyclable, but it is very pleasant cyclo-mountaineering in constant ups and downs. It ends on a cart track that shortly leads to Casera Montelonga, where a short break is due. Very beautiful and well maintained. Start again up and down for a few kilometers, then descend decisively, on a sometimes uneven surface. On the last stretch you follow the arrows on small plastic signs and quickly reach the lake.
39km - Asphalt 40% - Dirt 60%, challenging.
