Tre cattive in Calvana
Calvana is one of those places where you can always find natural trails without any kind of artifice.
Today we combined what for me are the three most intense and beautiful descents of this particular area. Starting from Travalle, we headed to the Cassiana quarry where the hard climb to the Valibona memorial begins. After a break for refreshment we resume the path and after a short while we stop again to put on our protective gear before tackling the descent of San Leonardo(CAI 442). Initially the trail misleads by letting you think it is easy and fast but as we descend it becomes more and more complicated and fun in a rocky environment that stays that way all the way down.
This is the prelude to the day so good first. We continue on Cai trail 424/440b until we cross a wider trail that leads to Casa Bastone. The ascent is only partly cyclable, perhaps with an ebike you can tackle it all but the most technical points. Near Casa Bastone we get dressed again for the second descent on the Cai 428 "Le Scalette" trail. The theme is always the same rock rock and just rock, nice also the second one.
After finishing the descent we take Via di Villabona (trail Cai 440) and then turn into Via di Carteano (trail Cai 440) where there is a water source. Once in Filettole, the very hard climb begins, passing through Poggio Bartoli and leading to Poggio Castiglione.
From here following the Cai 420a trail marker we go to close the tour with the hardest descent of the day that is the Seccomas Cai 428a trail all to be interpreted on sight on a rocky bottom: super.
