M. Zerbion
M. Zerbion as a transvallive cyclo-mountaineering version, very varied in trail type and difficulty. Needless to say, this interpretation of mine arose from careful examination of the raids of @Paiogs who is at home in these areas!
Departure from Artax or those who wish to extend from la Magdeleine.
We climb initially on asphalt that soon becomes dirt to Lake de la Croux. Shortly before at a thundering climbs to the right on forestry with some heart-breaking ramps, then becomes a path until you reach a mountain pasture from which resumes the dirt road that climbs with more bludgeoning takes us to take the path that reaches the Colle Portola with bike on the shoulder. Continuing bike on shoulder or at the side for 300 d+ we climb easily up to the huge statue of the Madonna at the top of Zerbion ( 2722 mt)
Belly full and wheels down we retrace the path we just took to descend to the col with really nice route that alternates easy sections with steps on non-trivial rock but almost never exposed thanks to the wide path.
At the pass we now descend Val d'Ayas side and here the rumba begins...bottom always excellent with fixed rock but the more we descend the tighter and more badass the switchbacks become, waggling us on the gentle meadows below with nice shapely arms.
Now awaits us a pleasantly flat section that follows the Ru Courtod with some very funny eats and drinks until we cross to the other side on a wooden bridge , then we climb on a steep dirt road to the top of the Antognod lifts from which, bike on our shoulders, we cut across meadows intercepting the path that goes up to Col Pillonet (2698 mt)
From the pass descend on a fairly stony and challenging trail to the Champlong Lakes,
Short strerrata to the south and again on a very nice path but challenging to ride for the bottom at times technical and the various eats and drinks that take us to the ridge that descends from M. Tantanè.
From the ridge now the descent is beautiful on a rocky bottom at first, then as soon as you take the fork on the right (straight you would descend to la Magdaleine) the path becomes smoother with beautiful traverse that enters the woods giving moments of joy until Col Pilaz and from which on path 1A we return to Artax.
