Plan Morion e rifugio Magià su neve
Short but beautiful tour in the valley of St. Barthelemy, done in winter all on snowshoe trails or well-trodden roads. Make sure the snow conditions are good, otherwise the uphill part may not be practicable without snowshoes.
Start from Porliod parking lot, climb up to plan Morion on beaten road first, and snowshoe trail later, following signs to plan Morion. (Caution: if there is avalanche risk, leave the trail at elevation 2040m and follow the trail slightly downhill to the right, as per the signs. You will rejoin the trail a little further on, avoiding the risk zone.)
Reaching the highest point, a beautiful descent follows on snowshoe trail (and eventually snowcat road) to the Magià refuge (follow signs). Return with some ups and downs on beaten road and trails.
Note: the first part of the trail is missing, however it is sufficient to reach the cross-country center on paved road and then follow the snowshoe trail signs.
Ps: if you want, from the same starting point you can also reach Tsa de Fontaney (follow signs) and if the track is well beaten after the hut continue to the right towards the col du Salvè
