Two days in the quiet in the shadow of the giant
Mount Amiata is an intriguing, mysterious relief that joins the Val d'Orcia to the Maremma, the Amiata to Tuscia, its intriguing conical shape that can be glimpsed from miles away provides a backdrop to a series of hills, on one of which is positioned Montelaterone, a small medieval village with a labyrinthine development of narrow streets, alleys and stairways. From Montelaterone one can glimpse the sea and on the other side the great relief of Mount Amiata. A strategic place in which is also located the Roccaccia, a defense structure useful to control the area in defense of Siena. It is no coincidence that the pedaled tour through Amiata started from here, the village boasts that atmosphere of tranquility, peaceful isolation not lacking in services, Il Borgo is the Community Cooperative that operates within the warm-colored walls of this village to offer services and support to Montelaterone residents and tourists with a food service, a market and a hostel. Overnight in the Portabene Hostel means finding yourself overlooking the village from the terrace, the Amiata tour started here, riding comfortable ebikes to discover the secrets of this majestic place.
Montelaterone is the right place for those seeking rest and a logistical foothold to design their own two-wheeled tour. The architected excursion crossed the Amiata reaching the borders with Lazio, passing right through the forests of Mount Amiata and arriving at San Giovanni delle Contee. A tour within the reach of all mountain bike and ebike enthusiasts that can be tackled at most times of the year.
