Palazzuolo sul Senio, Ocarello Riaccio e Scamuzzola
Another beautiful ride through the Upper Mugello that doesn’t go easy on you—my derailleur cage paid the price, literally bending out of shape because of a stupid little twig. The long climbs somewhat overshadow the corresponding descents, which, given the length of the climbs, don’t feel quite as challenging; nevertheless, they remain high-quality, never boring, and even feature some demanding sections.
Ocarello
The longest and most varied descent, very beautiful in its upper section along ridgelines and featuring some technical sections, while in the second half it becomes a winding flow with a few sections that are tough on the legs.
Riaccio
The most challenging trail, with truly tough sections in its first part that aren’t part of my repertoire, but I believe are for only a few daredevils. Aside from these few sections, the trail is rideable for a good 90%.
Scamuzzola
Definitely the easiest, with no particular complications, but the most tiring to reach, featuring concrete ramps with gradients as steep as 24% that force you to get off the bike. The descent, however, remains fun without any major complications. It’s a shame that it loses a bit of interest in the final section.
Overall, an excellent ride that we adapted to the time we had available. The initial idea was to combine the Riaccio with the lower part of the Ciriegiolo, but since we’d already done that in the past, we opted for the Scamuzzola, thereby avoiding a short portage section—even though we knew, albeit reluctantly, what we were missing out on.
