Description
Starting from the old Rome fairgrounds, the route forms a loop that winds through bike paths, dirt roads, and short stretches of paved road. There are two challenging sections along the route:
- The first is just after leaving the old Pontina road, specifically on Via Filberto Scarpell. At the end, they’ve placed soil to block cars, but you can easily get past by getting off your bike and walking. Next, there’s also a sheep fence that’s easy to cross; don’t be fooled by the fallen tree—you can easily go around it
- The second is at the entrance to Via Laurentina, as the route involves crossing the pedestrian bridge that allows us to go over Via Laurentina, avoiding the roundabouts where cars pass. Since the elevators have been destroyed, you’ll have to carry your bike on your shoulders and climb two flights of narrow stairs.
Otherwise, it’s a very pleasant loop, almost entirely flat, that winds through the countryside around southern Rome.
