Trevignano - Oriolo - Trevignano cross country

Simple and pleasant route in the hilly and wooded area between Trevignano and Oriolo Romano that partly traces the Ciclovia dei Boschi and the route of the Gran Fondo di Trevignano and crosses several beech forests, including the ancient one of Monte Raschio. It is generally rideable year-round. The area offers many possibilities, and the one shown in the trail is just one of many variations, with the possibility of adding many single tracks. The selected track involves starting from the Trevignano sports fields, near Provincial Road 3c Trevignano - Sutri.

Near the gate of the sports fields there is a dirt area with free parking where you can generally find space. Do not enter the gate because it is a private area. We start immediately uphill along a dirt lane, which takes us in a short time following the track all the time to a paved road, to be taken to the left. The small road crosses an area with several bike park trails, but they are not on this trail. Continue along the road, which soon becomes unpaved and then closed to car traffic by a bar. After a few kilometers, you reach a second barrier and the road becomes open to traffic again, usually very limited, but still unpaved. Following the trail at a few forks, you arrive in Oriolo Romano, still on dirt roads.

After a break in the square the route proceeds with a visit to the Oriolo park. On the way back a similar route is followed, but with the introduction of some variants on secondary dirt roads and some paths, without any particular technical difficulties and with a detour to the high ground of Poggio Stracciacappello. Here, too, there are numerous possible variants. At km 22.5 we turned left, but the trail was dirty with branches; it is easier to continue on the main dirt road to the right and then turn left.

In Oriolo, that is, about halfway along the route, there is a fountain where you can get water and, if you wish, some bars, grocery stores and pizzerias by the slice. The route does not present any technical difficulties, but one can include variations on trails or even avoid the few that are there. The elevation gain, estimated at 1000-1100 meters may seem challenging, but given the easy rideability of the entire route, it is easily tackled.
