Monte Salvaro
Start from the Vado parking lot and head up Via Creda, which becomes less steep after a few short, steep sections (paved road followed by a dirt road). Then take the TRoll trail to the left, a nice single track with some ups and downs in the initial section and a few steep climbs toward the end, until you rejoin the dirt road. Continue along the dirt road and, at a junction, keep right (steep climb) toward Monte Sole. The trail becomes very rideable; only in the section just before the summit are there about 20 meters where you’ll need to push. Descend along a technical trail with steps (though the slide alongside is almost always available) and you’ll arrive near the cemetery. Here, follow the road (with a short detour onto a trail) toward Monte Salvaro, a dirt road (Cai 51). At the intersection with the road ascending from Salvaro, keep left and then take the Cai 100 trail to the right, which climbs to Monte Salvaro.
The ascent follows a trail that is gradual in the first section, with good footing on smooth rock and well-drained terrain, and a few steep sections in the final part. You arrive a few meters from the Monte Salvaro cross (to the right of the cross). Then descend along the trail but keep left to take the ridge trail (parallel to the descending Cai 100). The trail is a nice, fast-flowing singletrack (with some exposure on the left), but features a series of challenging technical sections on rock, leading to the junction below Monte Pezza. Here, the descent ends with a fun, fast-flowing downhill section.
On the road, head toward Ca Mascagni and here take the CAI 100 trail (this section is also prone to mud on the climb, though it’s short). You’ll arrive in the village of Castello via the trail and then on the road. Shortly after Torre Terme, a trail begins that climbs gradually up to Carviano, and from here the final trail starts; a flowy route with a few jumps, switchbacks, and steps. You arrive on asphalt in Salvaro. At the bridge, continue toward La Tabina. Climb to Lastre and then turn right toward Collina. The climb has some steep sections but is well-rideable. In Collina, take the RazorBack singletrack to the right, a classic in the area. A technical trail along a ridge with steep sections and passages over rock and gravel. A trial-style section followed by more flowy riding all the way to Calenzano. Here, cross the bridge again to climb back up toward Monte Sole. Follow the dirt road and then the paved road through San Martino, Caprara di Sotto, and past the Casaglia cemetery on the right to reach the Cai 55 (a flowy single track with some elevated sections prone to mud) which takes you back to Le Murazze and shortly thereafter to Vado.
Observe bicycle traffic restrictions where applicable. Route difficulty: S3 (some sections S4).
