Stockalperweg (Simplon - Brig)
Descent from Simplon Pass to Valais. We parked the car directly at the pass, got off at Brig and from there took the postal bus back up. We then went down to Gondo, up to the customs between Switzerland and Italy (you can find the itinerary here: https://itinerari.mtb-mag.com/tours/view/18468) and then back to the pass again by postal bus.
Find schedules and fares here: https://www.postauto.ch/. The route is the 631, leaving almost hourly from Brig and Visp. On weekends it is best to make reservations. Pedaling the road is not advisable because it is also busy with heavy vehicles and especially the ascent from Gondo is narrow and goes through tunnels.
But let's come to the descent to Brig. The trail is the Stockalperweg, marked with a brown sign throughout. The first section is quite winding and technical, if wet it gets quite tricky.
Lots of small bridges to cross, often very narrow and with bikes to be led by hand. After a short but sunny ascent of about 200 meters of elevation gain on paved road the second part of the descent begins, very spectacular at first (it is the waterfall crossing in the video) and then superfast and smooth.
The descent ends at Brig station, where you take the bus back up.
