Fontana del Buon Vino, Serra di Corfino, Pania di Corfino
Departure from Corfino, a small, well-preserved village nestled on the slopes of the Pania of the same name in the green Garfagnana. From here we will head uphill towards the Orecchiella State Nature Reserve, pedaling, in fact, on the only significant stretch of asphalt (however in a pleasant and typically mountainous environment). Arriving at the Orecchiella Visitor Center , it will be possible to take a short coffee break and, at the same time, learn a little about the history of the Reserve and for what purpose it was established.
We will resume pedaling uphill again. The road that leads to the Sella di Campaiana climbs with a constant gradient, alternating between short paved and other unpaved sections. When we reach the saddle we will descend a few hundred meters, then take a forest track immersed in a beautiful beech forest that, not without effort, climbs until it intercepts CAI path 58 directed to the Fonte del Buon Vino, at 1764 meters above sea level. This trail can be pedaled almost all the way, there are few sections where you will need to put your bike on your back.
When we reach the Fonte, the panorama will open up: the highest peaks of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Apuan Alps will stand out before us, framing the green Garfagnana within them. We will continue on the ridge trail, which will gradually become more technical. We will take CAI path 64 passing by the Sella di Lamarossa and reach the wooded summit of the Serra di Corfino (1692 meters). Here the descent will begin, which is technical and fun. At the end, we will continue on CAI 64 trail and with a short bike ride we may touch the summit of Pania di Corfino (1603 meters), a natural balcony over Garfagnana. Green pastures alternate with very rocky stretches, vaguely recalling the Apuan environment.
The trail will continue, still technical, descending toward the Granaiola Refuge and arriving at the picturesque Campaiana pasture. We will then take, then, CAI trail 56, also known as the "source of love." Technical and fun descent to the right point. In 500 meters of elevation gain we will reach Corfino again. We will cross the village and may refresh ourselves in one of its inns.
Availability of water along the route: Fontanone dell'Orecchiella (km 6.60) - Ascent in Campaiana (km 7.00) - Fonte dell'Amore (km 25.00)
