Monte Prado passo degli Scaloni e Pania di Corfino
From Corfino we go up the asphalt in the direction of Orecchiella, abandoning the road at the visitor center in favor of a short stretch of single track to Fonte dei Faggioni where we fill our water bottles. We get back in the saddle and go up the road that leads to the Sella di Campaiana and at an elevation of 1450 meters we take Airone 3 trail, a nice single track that will take us up to Casini di Corte from where we will climb the Valli Calde to below the Prado saddle, and then tackle the backpacking bike section that leads to the summit.
After the ritual photo we get dressed and tackle the ridge to the foot of Mt. Vecchio.
From the pass we take Heron 3 which we will follow to the Fonte del Buon Vino. This section called the Scaloni offers only a few spots where we can climb in the saddle, but the environment is really beautiful. Before we get to the spring, the music changes and the trail becomes practically all cyclable. We abandon Heron 3 and descend to the Bocca di Scala refuge to continue on Cai 58, but first we refuel with fresh water at the spring not far away.
Cai 58 is very nice, all pedalable with a relaunch about halfway up, which is felt today given the considerable elevation gain, but still doable without problems. Once on the road we have to climb it to get to Sella di Campaiana where we take the sentierio that leads to Pania di Corfino. We decide to skip the summit from where we have now passed several times and go in search of a freeride solution that will allow us to intercept the Cai 58 where it begins to descend towards Corfino, so as not to lose altitude unnecessarily. Indeed an old trail exists and although very dirty we manage to saddle down and find 58 right where we wanted it. Now we just have to close the ride with a descent that we already know, very physical and with a rocky and bumpy bottom that forces continuous attention and riding sensitivity in sliding the bike.
