Seehorn con discesa su Stockalperweg in Zwischbergertal
A beautiful panoramic peak with a very enjoyable descent.
Start from Gondo, as soon as you pass Swiss customs turn left and descend in the direction of Zwischbergertal. Park just after the turn, or in the direction of Italy there is convenient parking with bathrooms below it. Drive up the valley on a nice paved road with almost no traffic. At the 'height of the reservoir keep right and continue uphill until you reach Furggu Pass. You now leave the road and climb on beautiful trail among the larch trees for about 600 mt. of elevation gain. With MTB most of the persourse will be pushing, a few pedal strokes for the more stubborn and a couple of shoulders for the steepest and broken sections. With Ebike sui manages to pedal quite a bit, a few sections with walk and the usual two shoulder shrugs. At the summit a hideous metal construction awaits us but just turn our backs on it and the panorama of Fletschorn - Lagginhorn - Weissmies, as well as the Simplon pass peaks will keep us company during lunch.
Descent
Start with immediately a technical first bit and loose stones, then you get to the grassy ridge and can open the throttle! A couple of easy switchbacks lead to the most challenging section: the gradient increases and the surface becomes technical, a penalty is to be reckoned with but the rest is just beautiful! From the flat at elevation 2200 to the road it's a festival of hysterical queer screams: beautiful trail, never trivial but not too difficult either, ONE ENJOYMENT in the middle of the larches.
Arriving at the road on the left are signs for the Stockalperweg, a very old communication route between the North and South Alps. This trail is also great fun, very fast sections alternating with more technical ones but always all well doable in the saddle. There is a possible variant that leads to Brukappelle but we followed the main trail. As you come out on the road at 'lake level you cross the river and follow the orographic right side of the valley.
The final part will provide some nice challenges on stone steps that will spit you into the playground of Gondo. You won't feel the need to get on the merry-go-round and slide, because you will have had enough fun, guaranteed !
