Val Varaita: colli di Vers e di Sagnes
Departure of this itinerary from Casteldelfino, where we start on asphalt along the Val Varaita di Bellino to Sant'Anna. The asphalt gives way to a hard dirt road that climbs into the Traversagn Valley to the plans of delle Grange Sagners. We start pushing/pushing the bike up to Colle di Vers at 2864 mt. Ahead of us on the other side is the beautiful trail that descends into Val Maira. We will ride a short part of it as we do not have to descend but stay at altitude. We cross a wetland and shoulder the bike are at the Colle di Sagnes at 2884 mt. Excellent views of the very nearby Monte Chersogno.
Down below we catch a glimpse of our trail, which we reach with a short bike-to-side section along a gully. Initially a few short non-bikeable sections but then all in the saddle until Bivacco Bonfante (attention private bivouac and not usable). A short A/R is then worthwhile to see Lake Camosciere and the ruins of the Casermetta.
From now on the trail becomes increasingly smooth in predominantly downhill until the Colle della Bicocca. We cross and go to the nearby Colle Terziere from where the trail starts to take us back to Casteldelfino. Warning: this last trail is prone to being overgrown by vegetation especially in the upper part; then it becomes very beautiful thanks to a myriad of hairpin bends.
As of the date the itinerary was uploaded, it appears to be passable. To avoid misunderstandings, I remind you that this is a CYCLING itinerary, albeit a light one. Avoid it if you are not used to pushing or carrying your bike on your back.
