Description

Starting from the bridge over the Corsonna just below Renaio, we immediately warm up our legs on the steep climb to the village. Arriving at an altitude of 1000 we leave the main road and head for the Giovanni Santi refuge below Vetricia. Arriving at the latter, where it is possible to refuel with water (not controlled) we continue the ascent on the forest road that ends right at the foot of the Omo peak. Along the road at an altitude of about 1580 it is worth making a short detour to visit the Caciaia Bivouac where there is also another water point.

We continue the ascent pedaling up to 1620 meters where we must necessarily load the bikes on our shoulders for about 220 meters of elevation gain to reach the summit of Cima dell'Omo. Today the day is beautiful and the view is spectacular. On one side dominates Monte Giovo and on the opposite side the Crinale that includes Monte Spicchio, Monte Saltello, Monte Albano, Monte Romecchio and the Cime di Romecchio, while turning our gaze to the east we can admire the entire Apuan arc in the distance.

After a nice panoramic glimpse we begin the descent from the summit all bikeable following the entire CAI 00 to the Porticciola pass. Unfortunately, from an altitude of 1780 to the pass the cyclability is not total reason why for those who want to venture on this tour in the future I recommend to follow the obvious track that leads on the path below, all cyclable (classic). From the Porticciola pass we go up the 00 to the junction where it crosses CAI 28. Having taken the latter we resume the descent until we intercept CAI 26 continuing to descend.

At an altitude of 1475 we interrupt the descent for another small detour to visit Baita Morena, a beautiful self-managed and always open bivouac located at the foot of Mount Giovo. On the small detour to reach it it is possible to get water at a spring. We resume our descent on Cai 26 and at an altitude of 1330 the trail turns into a wide roadway that leads us again near the Santi hut. Also along this road there is another spring where we can get water. After a stop at the refuge we return to the forest road to finish the tour on the Angeletti descent, a beautiful trail divided into two parts that in the upper part corresponds to the long and challenging CAI 30.

The second part has not been cleared and being on a very bumpy and steep bottom you have to be careful because the vegetation is quite thick, vbut despite this we manage to descend without ever setting foot on the ground. In case you do not want to do this second part just follow the CAI trail that leads equally to the starting point.
