Penna di Cardoso
A great ride through the valley of the deep green.
Starting from the Mills we head to the mouth of Pompanella and then to the beautiful village of Trassilico. A necessary visit to the Rocca where the panorama sweeps from the Apuan Alps to the Apennines with beautiful views of the Panie and Mount Forato. We descend to the village to take the Goat Trail, the most enjoyable of the three trails (Chieva and Zappello). We ascend on asphalt toward Verni and then abandon it in favor of the dirt road that will lead us to San Luigi.
Thanks to the indications of the shepherd found at Pian di Lago we vary the tour by passing through Penna di Cardoso, a very apt choice that avoids the passage from Cai 136 closed due to bad conditions. From St. Louis except for a small initial stretch of a few dozen meters we arrive at the marker that indicates the altitude practically by pedaling. The summit is wooded and not at all scenic but the environment very beautiful, surrounded by centuries-old chestnut trees.
Even the descent to the pitch proves to be fun and not at all trivial and at the end gives us a splendid view from the Cross of Bolognana. We continue on 111 where we find a few trees on the path that we easily climb over. Once on the road we close the tour with the mule track that leads from Vallico di sopra to Vallico di sotto and following a path that runs along the Rio Selvano we return to our starting point.
