Sentiero dei Cannoni - Forte di Fenestrelle

Nice scenic route around the Fort of Fenestrelle, symbol of the Province of Turin, a Savoy construction with works in progress between 1722 and 1850, for which the guided tour deserves a separate day.

We start from Depot, a hamlet before Fenestrelle and, on asphalt, climb to the east side of the Fortress, passing the former Agnelli sanatorium, on the same route for Assietta. A dirt road begins that takes us up to Fort Serre Marie, one of the fortifications supporting the Fenestrelle fortress. Back near the fort we turn right toward the village of Puy.

At a bend to the right we do not continue toward Puy (the drool on the trail is deliberately maintained), but turn left onto a path that shortly takes us along the southern front of the Fortress and then takes us along the Trail of the Cannons.

The Trail of the Cannons used to be the service road to the Fort with stone paving and retaining walls, nowadays it is a mule track at least two meters wide with loose stones, difficulty BC, that takes us back to Fenestrelle.
