Piancavallo CAI 990

Cyclo-mountaineering route with ascent on asphalt on closed road to Bornass, then ascent on road to Col del Lovo past the turn-off at Col, cart track along the Malghe promenade to Piancavallo and descent on trail with a push section to Dardago XC trails to Aviano.

Starting in Aviano proceed to Costa and then start climbing the Sanctuary road and continue on the old closed road to Bornass; exit onto main road and continue climbing until near Col del Lovo where you take a right to bypass Col Alto. The road becomes a cart track until you reach a fork near the casera from where the picturesque Passeggiata delle Malghe begins, taking us all the way to Piancavallo. Reaching the main square we climb to the left along the botanical trail parallel to the ski slopes along CAI 992; coming out onto the road we immediately take CAI 990 and reach the top of our tour. Our descent now begins immediately after crossing the Cansiglio road.

The first part of the trail is technical but flowing until we reach the bed of the Artugna stream, where an ascent with bike on shoulder of about 80 meters begins. The second part of the trail descent is more technical and challenging also because of its exposure (S2). Thus we reach the valley paths that with fast single tracks interspersed with cart tracks lead us to Aviano.
