Giro del Lago di Garda: tappa 2 Tignale - Torbole
Start from Gardola di Tignale on the provincial road towards Tremosine, with continuous ups and downs in mountainous landscape, yet so close to Lake #garda. You follow signs for Limone del Garda descending quickly on a road with little traffic to avoid the many dangerous tunnels. Wonderful vantage points follow one another on the descent to the little town of lemon groves where the inner alleys are not forbidden to two-wheelers, so you pedal along the beach and then through the little alleys (pedestrians permitting) to take the Sentiero del Sole, an uphill bike/pedestrian path that leads to the famous and flag-waving "Most beautiful in Europe," a stretch of about 5km of which about 2km overhangs the lake, which allows you to admire the environment and avoid some tunnels, but ends abruptly with a railing and a narrow passage before a dark and narrow tunnel on the Gardesana, the only road that can be used from now on.
Admittedly, the bicycle path (more pedestrian than cycle) is well made but it is too short and an end in itself, so half a disappointment. Headlights and guts to continue north a few miles to be absolutely avoided with kids on bikes, to Riva del Garda, where the music definitely changes. Spaces designed for two wheels, bike lanes, dedicated services and stores, and a splendid lakefront. We ride along beaches and marinas to the Sarca River where we meet the junction with one of the most beautiful bike paths in the area (no sarcasm this time) that leads to Trento, Bolzano and the Brenner Pass. To check how well it is done we decide to reach Arco, the first town to the north. For the return trip we follow an alternative bike route that crosses the river and with ups and downs among plum and apple trees leads to the only rocky, stepped single-track of the S3 tour, which quickly leads to Torbole, another bike paradise, comparable to Riva.
