Bocco di Bargone e sentiero Lago di Bargone
One can start from any of the Tigullio municipalities, Chiavari, Lavagna, or Sestri Levante.
From the center of Sestri you move toward Casarza following the bicycle path that starts from the park near the Casette rosse, once you reach the Casarzino center you continue along the main road to the hamlet of Bargonasco, where you turn left uphill on asphalt toward Bargone. From the village square, after a possible water bottle refill stop at the drinking fountain, go uphill to Costa di Bargone and then turn right to Bocco di Bargone. The dirt climb is about 6 km long and has some challenging but always doable ramps.
Once we reach the pass we turn left onto the dirt road that then skirts Bargone Lake.
After passing a steep ramp on dirt road we come to a hairpin bend to the left with a small area with a picnic table. Outside the hairpin bend a half-trail starts, which we take to continue the tour. After 300 m from the beginning of the path going up to the left there is a possibility to climb Mount Roccagrande on which there is a fantastic view of Sestri and the Gulf of Tigullio. Now the trail definitely begins to descend and has several technical points on rock, so it is a trail to avoid in wet weather. We then arrive at an esplanade with several hunting poles, we are careful to follow the trail that gets lost among the rocks, moreover the fun is really in looking for the best and most enjoyable line. Once past this section we take the path to the left, a bit hollowed out by water, which then leads us to an esplanade, where we take the dirt road downhill that leads us to the Iscioli pass, skirting the Mont Blanc quarry.
When we arrive at the pass we cross the asphalt and descend to the dirt esplanade below, where a false-flat single track starts and comes out onto a dirt road. On the trail we must be careful to take the correct fork on the right, keeping the votive shrine on the left.
Once we finish the single track and come to the dirt road we go right, until we reconnect at a hairpin bend to another dirt road: if we go up to the left we could connect to the hunters' path and add some descent on sestri, or we follow the track and go down to the left, until the dirt road gives way to the asphalt road that leads us into Val Graveglia. At the end of the road, after the bridge, we take a left and follow the main road to Conscenti and then to the Settembrin traffic circle, where we take the second exit and head toward the end of the loop. To return to the coast, the trail follows the slate bike path, which avoids city traffic.
The trail is rated with 5 stars of difficulty for the part of the trail after Bargone Lake, which is not suitable for beginners and has challenging passages.
