M. Pennello discesa Hard Rock E1
Classic destination on the high quality Genovese heights in diverse environments from forest to maquis. The descent on E1 is among the most technical in the area, but there are several much easier alternative descents.
Departing from the Pegli waterfront, you pedal in the direction of San Carlo di Cese on a pleasant traffic-free road, just before the Valico di Lencisa turn left for Vaccarezza.
Just before the end of the road you take a bumpy dirt road that shortly after becomes a path where you have to push for a short distance, then on steep slopes you reach the little chapel of Rocca Maia from which you enter the dirt road. All that remains is to pedal on very challenging inclines until we reach Praratado on the wide panoramic dirt road coming from Praglia.
We follow the dirt road with technical stretches until we reach the refuge of M. Pennallo from which there is a wonderful view of all of Genoa and the coast. Now all that remains is to descend towards the sea, at first on wide methane pipeline track, then staying on the left we take path E1 (not very evident) that arrives at a wooden table near a spring. Here the trail becomes technical on always grippy rock and continues on very technical terrain where you have to know how to "float"!
When we arrive on a ridge we temporarily abandon E1 and continue on small but obvious trail that reaches M. Rotondo (buildings) and then go around it to go back to E1 on a rather challenging trail to Cian de Figge (tables). Here there are other possible descents that are easier, but today we want to devastate our arms by continuing on E1 that always requires considerable buoyancy skills so as not to disappear among the rocky boulders known as "Scogli Neri" .
When you reach Fossa del Lupo a world of possibilities opens up to you, all flowing in comparison to what you have just passed! Following the most linear and logical route we descend on beautiful trails until we take the final section called "Rive Rosse" for the color of the earth and the rocks that always offer a very good grip and that lead us with a series of bends and steep slopes to skirt Villa Durazzo.
Once in town, all that remains is to look for a baker to replenish with abundant focaccia.
