TECHNICAL DATA SHEET.
Hourly direction - Length = 48 km - Sal/Disc elevation gain = +1460 m
Elevation min/Max = 430 / 1735 - Standard Time 4:30 min hours
Average speed = 10.7 Km/hour - Cyclability over time 98% (walking 5 min)
Technical Difficulty = 5/7 Medium/Difficult - GD= 61 Medium/Difficult
Electricity Consumption =430 Wh
NOTE 1: The route consists of a long section (initial and final) to be done on the outward and return and a loop at the top. If you wish, you can halve the route and remove 560 m of elevation gain by starting from a higher location placed in the loop; I suggest the village of Don di Gosaldo (wpt D elevation 1145) or Forcella Aurine (wpt J elevation 1300).
NOTE 2: In the 'ring should still be respected the clockwise direction as the last downhill section from g1 ( altitude 1500) to Sant'Andrea is very steep (average 22% in the last Km with stretches at 30%): downhill you need good brakes but uphill it would become prohibitive !
DESCRIPTION:
We go up the Mis valley among overhanging walls, short tunnels, gorges and small waterfalls until we come out in the wider Paganin valley. In wpt A we pass the junction for the semi-abandoned village of Pattine and the ruins of California, a village abandoned in the 1966 flood and now engulfed by vegetation.
At an altitude of 700 you come to the hamlet of Lambroi (agritur. La Busca) and at q. 985 you reach the fork near Forcella Franche. Just beyond, in C, begins the loop mentioned in NOTE 1; continue on asphalt and easy slopes to Don di Gosaldo (q. 1145) where there is a bar and fountain and you can take a break (more than halfway up is now done). Resume on the road to Passo Cereda to Sarasin where (wpt E) you take a steep little road. The long ascent has hard ramps alternating with more rideable sections but always with good bottom and often cemented in the steepest sections. You arrive in wpt E/G at q. 1595 from which we will make the round trip to the Menegazzi bivouac. The panorama opens up over the valley and surrounding mountains (Sass D'Ortiga, Croda Granda and Agner being the best known). The Cavallera malga appears while the view of the Biv. Menegazzi is prevented from us by the forest above. From wpt F 1660 it is worth a digression to the nearby malga, which in addition to offering unparalleled views has ample tables and benches for a quiet refreshment stop. Returning to F, go up the last dirt road that leads to the bivouac; from wpt F2 it is better to leave the dirt road and head on a grassy track in the direction of the bivouac, now clearly visible at the top of the wide clearing. After a well-deserved stop and photos to immortalize the feat, well dressed and brakes checked ! start the descent from Bivacco Menegazzi (q. 1735). You return to the junction of q. 1595 where you now turn left. At elevation 1540 you pass two fords (lots of rocks and little water) then the road enters the woods.
At g1 (q, 1500) I have marked a hazard warning: a few uneven sections advise the less able to walk for short stretches but then, as the bottom improves, the slope becomes steeper and certain sections at -30%, even if cemented, require skill and caution (as well as good brakes). The challenging descent ends at the small village of Sant'Andrea from where you join the S.P. for Forcella Aurine; only 600 m on this and you turn left onto a nice little path that, keeping parallel to the S,P. (a little higher up), nonetheless leads to Forcella Aurine (q. 1300).
Cross the S,P. and take a dirt forest road that keeps at a long altitude through a forest devastated by Vaia. From Lagon locality the descent becomes steeper but made pleasant by a layer of dry leaves.
At K 1175 you leave the direction (for Rivamonte) and turn right down a steep descent. The difficulties end at q 1100 finding the asphalt again. With a series of pleasant switchbacks we descend until we find point C where the loop ends. From here it remains only a long but fast descent (12 km) along the road already traveled on the outward journey.
HOW TO GET TO THE STARTING POINT.
Taking the Agordina valley from Belluno, head toward Sospirolo and from Mas find ind. x "Valle del Mis." At the end of the lake cross the bridge and, turning right, park near the trattoria/bar "Alla Soffia" (the name refers to a beautiful waterfall not far away).
