Da Pievepelago a San Pellegrino in Alpe
A very scenic route, but also quite physically demanding.
It starts from Pievepelago and begins with a climb that alternates between asphalt and sometimes very steep off-road sections. The higher you climb, the more the view opens up, stretching from Cimone to Mount Gomito and on to the peaks above Lake Santo Modenese. After passing a small village of ancient Celtic-style huts, you take the well-known Via Vandelli, with a series of sometimes challenging ups and downs, especially on the climb.
At the end of the Via Vandelli, you climb on asphalt to the ridge above San Pellegrino in Alpe, where, if there are no clouds, you can see the beautiful Apuan Alps. From here, a beautiful off-road stretch begins, taking you to the village of San Pellegrino in Alpe, which is definitely worth a visit, especially the small church. From San Pellegrino, descend, partly off-road and partly on asphalt, to Sant'Anna Pelago. From here, begin a climb on asphalt, the last one but seemingly endless, which takes you to Roccapelago. Now all that remains is to descend off-road to Pievepelago.
As mentioned at the beginning, the tour is physically demanding due to both the distance and the elevation gain, but the view more than makes up for it. From a technical point of view, it is not overly difficult, but you must always pay attention. During the tour, there are several water fountains, a refuge, and various places to eat in San Pellegrino and Pievepelago. This tour should be avoided in winter.
