Passo Vallaccia e lago Nero
Trail with many trails, both uphill and downhill, and two push bike sections. The trail starts from the top station of the Mottolino cable car in #livigno. If you want to save the 13 Euro transportation fee, you can ride to the Eira Pass on the paved road. Since the ride is long and rather hard, I recommend investing your Euros.
You descend to the Eira Pass following the Flow Line in the bike park. From the pass you stay high above the road and descend on dirt and trail below Trepalle, where the spectacular Vallaccia begins. You initially ascend on a small paved road, admiring this deserted place. The dirt road takes the place of asphalt and, cows aside, you will be hard pressed to find a soul.
The valley is very long but never steep, not even when a trail begins that is initially rideable. You ride up to an elevation of 2380 meters. Vallaccia Pass is at 2600 meters, so we have about 250 meters ahead of us in which we easily push the bike.
I was expecting the descent to Val Viola to be un-bikeable, but instead when I get to the pass I see this libidinous trail, recently put in place and 100% rideable.
The Dosdé peak in the background keeps us company until we come out on a dirt road, which we follow for a short distance before taking a path to the right with a very nice forest floor and several hairpin bends that are never narrow. This path takes us to the Viola Valley road, which we follow left downhill to Arnoga.
From Arnoga we take the Decauville, a road built on the pipes that bring water to the Cancano lakes, which is perfectly flat. Enjoy the kilometers-relax, because at one point we turn left into Val Vezzola. The road is a nice, steep dirt road that takes us up to the houses. We now follow the Alta Valtellina Bike Marathon route in reverse, first on dirt, then on an uphill trail that has 2-3 points to push.
Thus we arrive above the Malga Trela, and here you have to make a decision: if you take a right you will arrive at the Malga, with refreshments, and then you can continue to the Trela Pass . If you turn left you will have a 30-minute push to the beautiful Black Lake. This is the junction:
When you get to Lake Nero you can pedal up to the top of the hill true to the Foscagno Pass.
The trail is beautiful, with several technical passages to be done slowly and with great precision. It is not exposed, but there are many rocks that squeeze the trail. Do us a favor: don't skid, because it will dig in right away. From Foscagno descend to Trepalle on a very smooth trail. When we reach a fountain we continue on trail all up and down until we cross the trail coming from Trela Pass. This is also very easy and fun.
Before arriving at Livigno Lake, more short ramps in a beautiful forest await us, after which we dive down until we reach the dirt road that will lead us back to the village.
