Monte Tamaro con salita dalla valle del Trodo
Route exclusively for ebikes because the climb is technical and takes place on trail. 800Wh battery is recommended. The easy variant can be found here, also for bikes.
Start in Bioggio, follow the Vedeggio bike path to Rivera and from there continue on the cantonal road to the Monte Ceneri passl. It is about 18 km in which I recommend using the lowest possible assistance. At Ceneri we turn left where the official climb to Monte Tamaro begins, which we abandon after 200 meters to enter the parade ground. Don't worry, to the left of the gate, once we lift the bike over the guard rail, we pass without any problems, since the trail we are going to do is official, open to the public and takes right from the military area.
We follow a small road to the entrance of the Trodo Valley trail and check that they are not doing drills (never seen in 15 years of coming here). The sign should be green:
The trail climbs a tough 750 meters of elevation gain, because the old pasture that led to Alpe Foppa is rather destroyed. The initial section is the worst, full of rocks where you have to find the line. If they are wet it will become almost impossible to stay in the saddle. Gradually the trail improves, although several bends will be impassable for most riders.
This brings you to the old cannon post, where you can take a little rest before resuming salmoning.
You will surely have sweated your 7 shirts, but fortunately for us there is a nice spring of fresh water at which to take a break in this godforsaken forest. Don't worry, I've been drinking it all along and I'm still alive.
Last effort and we arrive at the old ski slope, where the technical part of the climb is over.
From here you continue on the dirt road that leads up to the Monte Tamaro Hut. By Ebike it is a piece of cake, and having arrived at the hut I suggest refreshment because now the descent begins, which requires all our concentration.
The descent is not for beginners or those who suffer from vertigo, as the initial traverse is exposed, rocky and with technical sections not for everyone. The same goes for the first 4 hairpin bends i descent (S3). Only once past these difficulties does the trail become smoother and easier.
Miles and miles of rooty forest floor bring us to the Bassa, where we change sides and begin a trail that seems to have been built for bikes, but it is all natural. Here, too, it is all done in the saddle but only if you have decent riding technique (S3 passages).
Thus, you arrive in Arosio and climb briefly to Grotto Sgambada (refreshment possibility). The descent to above Bosco Luganese is rather smooth, depending on the disasters made by the summer storms. The part from Bosco Luganese to Gravesano was always rocky and technical, but it is fun because you have to look for lines (S3 passages).
In summary, a ride recommended only for fit ebikers who know how to ride the bike on very technical trails both uphill and downhill. Not suitable for beginners.
