Le Gorfigliette
From Pontestazzemese we recover the Arni road and arrived at the silver mines of Levigliani we leave the provincial road turning right on the steep climb that leads to the square at the top of the village. We continue the climb in the direction of Antro del Corchia turning left to recover the road that leads to Passo Croce. From the latter we continue to the Foce di Fociomboli, alternating between paved and unpaved sections. In the vicinity of the mouth, the road returns to a fair gradient with loose pavement while remaining rideable.
When we reach the marker that indicates CAI 129 we prefer to continue the ascent by means of the more comfortable marmifera road even if the very uneven ground obliges us to alternate a few pushed stretches just to avoid wasting useless energy. At an altitude of about 1400 via a junction we descend on CAI 129 below. Initially the trail alternates short downhill stretches with pedaled relaunches but when it starts to descend it does not let up anymore until the Del Freo di Mosceta refuge. After a much-needed break with cake and coffee we set off again in the direction of Colle delle Gorfigliette a beautiful plateau below the majestic Pania della Croce.
It takes about 25 minutes of biking to reach the elevation from where we will begin one of the most beautiful descents in the Apuan Alps for variety of conditions and landscape that alternates in sequence between trails 124 to Colle Mezzana passing by La Fania refuge and 117 to Cardoso.
